Chick and Eggs by Atterbury on the usual lacy base. The patent date of August 6, 1889 is embossed inside the lid only. This piece is sometimes found on a taller stemmed base. Westmoreland has reproduced it and reproductions are marked with the Westmoreland "WG" superimposed.

The Trilby Foot Match -- measures 4 inches wide by 2 7/8 inches tall at the back of the ankle. Discussed at some length at Ferson Plate No. 684.

Wide-ribbed Base

Blue dog with white head on wide-ribbed base by Westmoreland Specialty Company. A companion piece to the cat in the same colors, the dog always faces right, while the cat faces left. The usual 5 1/2 inches long. (Millard Plate No. 318)

WSC Black Hen
WSC Black Hen

Westmoreland Specialty Company Hen in black with a white head, 5 1/2 inches long, on Basket Weave base. Hard to find in this color combination. (Belknap No. 149-C)

WSC Black Rooster

Westmoreland Specialty Company Rooster in Black with a white head, 5 1/2 inches long, on wide-ribbed base. Hard to find in this color combination. (Ferson No. 11 in all blue)

WSC Blue Hen

Blue hen with white head on diamond and Basketweave base. Westmoreland Specialty Company. Approximately 5 1/5 inches long. Also found with colors reversed -- blue head with white body. Also found in black with white head, amber with white head, and in all amber, and in all black, and all white.

Westmoreland Specialty Company -- Rooster in blue with white head, 5 1/2 inches long on wide ribbed base. It seems Roosters are all on this base: while hens appear on a basket weave base.

WSC Cat

Wide-ribbed Base

This cat in blue and a white head rests on a wide-ribbed base and is a product of Westmoreland Specialty Company. It is 5 1/2 inches long. This cat faces left; its companion, a dog with blue body and white head, also rests on the wide-ribbed base. Sometimes found on a white wide-ribbed base. (Ferson No. 16)

Closed Neck Swan by Westmoreland Specialty Company on the usual 5 1/2 inch diamond and Basketweave base. Millard shows at Plate No. 278 (incorrectly shown married to a split rib base), but also shown in Newbound's book in Plate No. 134 on the correct base.

Lion on a picket base by Westmoreland Specialty Company, 5 1/2 inches long; more difficult to find in blue and white than in all white. (Ferson No. 89)

WSC - Log Cabin and
Red Brick Schoolhouse

Two Westmoreland Specialty Company mustard containers -- on the left is the Log Cabin and on the right is the Red Brick Schoolhouse. The next picture shows the bases of these pieces with the Westmoreland Specialty Company labels on the bottoms. When empty, these pieces could be utilized as banks by sealing the top to the bottom with sealing wax and breaking out the thin glass in the chimneys. Each piece stands about 5 inches tall.

Westmoreland Specialty Company Rooster on wide rib base, 5 1/2 inches long, this one is wearing old paint.

Standing Dog
Standing Dog

Standing Dog Covered Dish (sometimes called the Setter Dog).  It is on a Wheat Base and is a piece made for the E. C. Flaccus Company as a packing container. 6 3/4 inches long. The signature on the bottom reads:  "The E. C. Flaccus Co. Wheeling, W. Va." (Ferson No. 36).

Flaccus Rabbit on Wheat Base -- the usual elaborately molded piece in which the foliage on the top melds into the base bearing sheaves of wheat with quail about the base. 6 5/8 inches long. (Ferson No. 32)

Jack Rabbit covered dish.  Note the finely vertical ribbed base. 6-1/4 inches long. Millard refers to this as a Flaccus piece, although there is no documentation of that. (Ferson No. 38)

Hen on Basket

Hen on Basket wearing old paint, another product of Westmoreland Specialty Company (see Millard No. 323) .  Approximately 4-3/4 inches tall and basket is 5 inches wide at it's top.

Bull's Head Mustard by Atterbury, complete with tongue, which is a ladle for mustard.  This piece marked "Pat. Applied For" (Ferson No. 14)

Knobby Backed Turtle

Knobby Backed Turtle covered disk 9 3/7 inches long. (Millard No. 93 and Newbound No. 144). 

Although the glass factory that made this piece is unknown, it was produced from a mould once owned by the L. G. Wright company, and which is now the property of the NMGCS.

Entwined Fish by Atterbury on lacy base. The patent date of August 6, 1889, is embossed inside the cover, which is 6 inches in diameter. This piece is sometimes found on the tall-stemmed lacy base. (Ferson No. 51).

Mother Eagle
Mother Eagle

The Mother Eagle by Challinor Taylor, depicting the mother eagle with outspread wings sheltering three eaglets at her feet. Hard to find in the original. Westmoreland has reproduced it -- reproductions are marked with the WG superimposed. Also, the eyes of the original are very small, about 1/8th inch in diameter. The reproduction has flat eye sockets for eyes and measures about 1/16th inch in diameter. (Ferson No. 126)

Square Block Swan

Square Block Swan by Challinor Taylor. This base is square blocks with a horizontal flange. However, it is sometimes found on the Challinor Taylor Basketweave base. Available with or without eyes. This piece and also the waffle fish pickle by Challinor Taylor in our collection, bought at separate times and places, both have eyes that are a pale blue-gray. (Ferson No. 9)

Deer or Hart
Deer or Hart

Deer (sometimes called Hart) on a Fallen Tree Base. 6 3/4 inches long. Made by an unknown manufacturer as a packing container for : The E. C. Flaccus Co., Wheeling, W.Va., which appears on the bottom of the base. (Ferson No. 34)

McKey Owl Head
McKee Owl Head

Owl Head on split rib base by McKee. This piece is very opalescent, and both top and bottom are signed. (Ferson No. 71A)

Dog on a wide reed base, the maker is unknown. Both the slab on which the dog rests and the base are of very heavy glass. 6 1/2 inches long.  (Ferson No. 117)

Lion on wide reed base, a companion to the dog on the same base. Maker unknown. Both top and bottom are of very heavy glass. 6 1/2 inches long.  (Ferson No. 119)

Atterbury Hen

Atterbury Hen in white with blue head on 7 1/2 inch lacy base. This hen is sometimes found with a blue head, which is cased, in clear blue or in all clear blue for the head. (Ferson No. 5)

Baboon

Fleur de Lis Base

Baboon on Fleur de Lis Base, made for the E. C. Flaccus Company by an unknown glass maker.  6 1/8 inches long.  Considered to be rare. (Ferson No. 114)
