![]() Egyptian Revival Necklace Czechoslovakia has always been known for glass making
(hand blown, molded and cut) and when King Tut's tomb was opened in
1920 it led to an Egyptian revival in jewelry. Glass beads were molded
to resemble scarabs and pharaohs. Gablong had a tradition of glass
making and became the center of Czechoslovakian jewelry production.
Keeping in mind that Czechoslovakia didn't exist before WW 1, we know
that anything marked Czechoslovakia can't be older than 1918.
This necklace is Czechoslovakian Egyptian Revival molded glass, circa 1925, 26" long. The pharaoh is seated on a chair and is holding an ankh in his right hand and in his left hand a crook and flail. On either side of the chair are hieroglyphics. The rest of the necklace is made up of scarabs, round beads and long cylindrical beads, all separated by small copper lustre type beads. |
