NMGCS Glass Colors Display

We are working closely with the Corning Museum of Glass for a new glass exhibit they are opening up this year at the museum. We will be doing a group tour of the Brilliant Color: Glass and Innovation 1880-1930 exhibit on September 18th at 11:00am. If we have more than 25 people wanting to attend, we have a second tour set up for 12:00 noon. All NMGCS members who wish to attend will have to pay for the general museum admission, with museum members getting a discounted rate. The exhibit will feature glass manufacturing companies’ unique and innovative colors as well as innovation in the manufacturing process that helped shape the early glass manufacturing era. This exhibit will focus on American glass from what I understand. Our guest speaker, James Measell, has written a new book about this gallery for the Corning Museum of Glass.

In honor of this exhibition, the NMGCS convention will feature an NMGCS Colors Display in our main meeting room where the chairs for the auction will be set up. We strongly encourage all members to bring in the most unique, most vibrate, must subdued, or most looked over colors of opaque glass you have in your collection to add to the display. Anyone who has a unique French, German, or other non-American manufactured piece is also encouraged to bring it along for the display.

We need your help to make this display truly unique and unforgettable.  We will have everyone who wishes to bring in a piece for the display to have their piece with them for our NMGCS Color Display, scheduled for 9am on September 18th.  We hope to have this display up until the end of bingo so everyone can enjoy it together!

50/50 Raffle Information

We will be conducting a 50/50 raffle this year during the convention.  A 50/50 raffle works by purchasing tickets that go into a container to be drawn from when the raffle is over.  We will begin selling tickets at the welcome meeting on September 17th and will be able to be purchased throughout the convention.  Once the raffle is over, a single winning ticket will be drawn.  50% of the money raised during the raffle will go to the society, and the other 50% of the money raised will go to the lucky winner.  Tickets will be 1 ticket for $1, and 6 tickets for $5.  The winning ticket will be drawn at the end of our bingo game conducted on Saturday Sept 20th.
